Join us in the call for change
You might have seen last week (30 June 2014) the fresh impetus given to the campaign to cut VAT for hospitality businesses.
You might have noticed that a bunch of MPs signed up, or perhaps you received the BHA emails.
But let's be honest, it was probably the Sun's loud-mouthed #StickYourVAT campaign that brought it to your attention.
(If you didn't see their coverage, you really should have - in marketing terms, the Sun has much to teach us. I'll perhaps return to that another day.)
Either way, have you registered your support for the campaign yet? I have, and am proud to do so.
Shamefully, the UK charges much more VAT on tourism than most other European countries. And the cost to our industry is not just the dent it puts in visitor numbers from overseas - it damages the domestic market too. A cut in VAT to 5% would deliver dramatic benefits.
Most telling I think is the fact that domestic trips within Britain fell by 3 million last year as more people chose to holiday abroad. A cut to tourism VAT would help to reverse this decline. You can find out more at thesun.co.uk/vat or on the BHA website.
At Whistle Hospitality we intend to be active in our support for the campaign, and I urge you to do likewise. So, as they say...
Up an' at 'em!
